Director of Investment Accounting GovernanceInvestment Controllership Governance/Investment ControllershipFull-Time/Boston, MA or Springfield, MAThe OpportunityMassMutual is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join our Investment Controllership team as the Director of Investment Accounting Governance. In this highly visible role, you'll help shape the future of investment operational accounting by strengthening controls, modernizing processes, and supporting the evolution of our investment accounting technology landscape.Reporting to the Head of Investment Controllership Governance, you will lead a team of accounting professionals and an offshore partner organization while collaborating across Investment Operations, Securities Controllership, Finance, Treasury, and Enterprise Risk Management. You'll play a key role in ensuring the integrity of investment accounting data, driving operational excellence, and supporting the implementation of a new investment accounting subledger.This is an opportunity for a leader who enjoys solving complex challenges, building high-performing teams, and driving meaningful change in a dynamic investment environment.The TeamThe Investment Accounting Governance team is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of accounting information generated by our investment accounting systems while supporting the organization's ongoing modernization efforts.As part of this team, you'll work closely with business and technology partners to enhance controls, streamline processes, and implement new solutions that improve efficiency and transparency across the investment accounting ecosystem. The team is focused on continuous improvement and leveraging technology, automation, and data-driven insights to support a growing and increasingly complex investment portfolio.The ImpactIn this role, you will:Lead and develop a team responsible for operational securities accounting controls and account reconciliation activities.Ensure the completeness and accuracy of investment-related balance sheet accounts, net investment income, and realized and unrealized gains and losses.Coach, mentor, and support team members through ongoing training and professional development initiatives.Manage and oversee the performance of offshore partners, monitoring key performance indicators and driving continuous improvement.Help design and implement control frameworks supporting the transition to a new investment accounting subledger.Research, analyze, and resolve complex reconciliation differences across investment and accounting platforms.Drive initiatives that modernize and automate reconciliation processes through AI, technology, and other process improvement solutions.Analyze clearing and suspense balances within investment accounting and general ledger systems.Partner with FP&A to support management reporting and provide meaningful insights into net investment income results and trends.Evaluate and explain one-time adjustments and top-side accounting entries impacting investment income.Strengthen the operational control environment by identifying risks and implementing effective solutions.Collaborate across Investment Operations, Securities Controllership, Treasury, Financial Reporting, ERM, and other key business partners.Establish scalable workflows and operational accounting processes that support future growth and transformation.The Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree8+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or investment accounting supporting and/or overseeing accounting and operational processes related to investment portfolios, securities transactions, or financial reporting2+ years of experience leading teams, including managing onshore and offshore resourcesThe Ideal QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related disciplineExperience within investment operations, investment accounting, or financial servicesKnowledge of insurance investment accounting and inves
