Overview

Bell Ambulance, a leading Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provider in Milwaukee, is seeking a Director of Communications. This role involves overseeing the operational management and strategic development of their IAED-accredited Communication Center, which handles a high volume of emergency and non-emergency calls. The Director will drive performance improvement, compliance, and staff development within a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure continuous oversight of Communication Center operations, 24/7.
  • Maintain staffing levels with trained personnel for call taking, dispatching, and monitoring.
  • Review and update ambulance dispatch policies to ensure efficient operations.
  • Manage Traumasoft CAD system and other communication tools.
  • Analyze metrics using Microsoft POWER BI and Firstwatch.
  • Establish and maintain a Quality Assurance program for departmental compliance.
  • Provide regular performance reports and feedback.
  • Create a comprehensive training system for communication center personnel.
  • Foster a 'Just Culture' environment that promotes accountability.
  • Participate in the recruitment and interview process for new candidates.

Required skills

  • Prior experience in a high-call-volume Communications Center.
  • Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification.
  • Experience with Traumasoft CAD and related systems.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and crisis management skills.
  • Current EMS licensure (Any Level) preferred.
  • Prior EMS experience with both 911 and private call services preferred.
