Job Description

Overview

The Director of Accounting at Wallick Communities will lead the finance team to oversee full-cycle accounting, audit coordination, and regulatory reporting to ensure compliance and financial accuracy for affordable housing operations. This role requires collaboration with multiple teams and a focus on strategic financial planning within the LIHTC and HUD-regulated portfolio.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Affordable Housing Finance team and oversee all audit and operational interactions.
  • Collaborate with Operating, Asset Management, and Development teams to support business objectives.
  • Oversee full-cycle accounting including cash management and financial reporting for affordable housing operations.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on LIHTC, HUD compliance, and tax matters.
  • Review property-level and upper-tier financial statements and analyze financial reports for regulatory compliance.
  • Direct annual audits and tax filings for all properties.
  • Manage cash strategies and prepare for interim and year-end audits.
  • Train staff on GAAP and complex financing topics.
  • Promote a high-performing, solutions-oriented team culture.
  • Lead cross-functional projects to enhance organizational value.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; Master's degree preferred
  • CPA - Certified Public Accountant
  • 5+ years of experience in public accounting and private-sector finance, preferably in affordable housing
  • Proven leadership experience in managing finance groups
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting and budgeting
  • Knowledge of HUD, Tax Credit/LIHTC programs and affordable housing regulations
  • Experience in financial audits and working directly with auditors
  • Advanced proficiency with Yardi and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Ability to analyze financial reports and complex accounting data
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration
