Job Description

Overview

The Director, New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) for toxicology and drug development will lead initiatives to advance, validate, and qualify innovative alternative models for drug development and human safety testing. This role involves collaborating with biopharmaceutical, regulatory, and academic partners to reduce reliance on traditional animal testing and drive NAMs towards regulatory acceptance.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a strategic portfolio of programs focused on NAMs for drug development and human safety/toxicity assessment
  • Identify high-impact use cases for NAMs to be developed precompetitively for regulatory validation
  • Facilitate the creation of scientific frameworks for model validation and evidentiary standards
  • Design, launch, and manage multi-partner collaborations across various sectors
  • Align validation strategies with regulatory expectations and translate emerging science into validated models
  • Ensure governance of projects within the NAMs Validation and Qualification Network (VQN)
  • Lead cross-functional workstreams to address needs in NAMs validation and qualification
  • Represent the organization in scientific and policy forums, contributing to publications and consensus frameworks

Required skills

  • PhD or equivalent in toxicology, pharmacology, biomedical sciences, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in biopharmaceutical R&D, regulatory science, or translational research
  • Expertise in preclinical drug development and safety assessment
  • Experience with NAMs including in silico, in vitro, in chemico, and ex vivo methodologies
  • Proven ability to lead complex, cross-institutional scientific collaborations
  • Direct experience with regulatory agencies or regulatory submissions
  • Familiarity with global regulatory frameworks and NAM guidance
  • Strong track record of scientific team leadership
