Overview

The Diesel Mechanic Class A position at Interstate Waste Services involves advanced diagnostics, repairs, and technical leadership for refuse and heavy trucks. This overnight shift role supports a diverse range of customers and emphasizes safety, quality, and productivity in fleet management.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics and complex repairs on engines, electrical systems, and hydraulics
  • Lead and train Level B and Level C technicians
  • Analyze repair trends and recommend changes to PM procedures
  • Support road calls and on-site repairs in various locations
  • Assist in planning daily shop workload and technical audits
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and other regulations

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED; additional technical training preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic with advanced diagnostics
  • CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement preferred
  • Expert knowledge of heavy truck, refuse hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Proficient in diagnostic software and tools
  • ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician certification preferred
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead
