Overview

The Diesel Mechanic Class A position at Interstate Waste Services involves advanced diagnostics and complex repairs on heavy trucks and refuse systems during the overnight shift. The role combines technical leadership and training, ensuring high safety and productivity standards, while supporting the operational needs of the fleet across the New York tri-state area.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead diagnosis and resolution of complex issues involving engine performance, electrical systems, and hydraulics.
  • Plan and execute major component repairs, including major engine repairs and complex hydraulic rebuilds.
  • Serve as a technical resource for other technicians, providing on-the-job training and support.
  • Analyze failure trends and recommend changes to maintenance procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
  • Support complex road calls and on-site repairs at various locations.
  • Provide feedback on equipment condition and performance.

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a diesel mechanic or technician.
  • CDL Class B or A with air brake endorsement preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of heavy truck and refuse systems.
  • Proficient in diagnostic software, scan tools, and OEM service information.
  • Proven track record of performing complex diagnostics and repairs.
  • ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician certification preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coach and influence others.
