Job Description

Overview

The Diesel Mechanic Class A position at Interstate Waste Services involves advanced diagnostics and complex repairs on refuse and heavy trucks during the overnight shift. The role requires technical leadership to ensure safety, quality, and productivity, while meeting regulatory compliance across the fleet.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead diagnosis and resolution of complex engine performance and emissions issues.
  • Plan and execute major component repairs including engine and transmission work.
  • Provide on-the-job training and coaching to Level B and C technicians.
  • Analyze repairs and recommend changes to maintenance procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
  • Support on-site repairs and road calls at various locations.
  • Help plan daily shop workload and allocate jobs to technicians.

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED; additional technical training preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a diesel mechanic.
  • CDL Class B or A with air brake endorsement.
  • Expert knowledge of heavy truck and refuse systems.
  • Experience with diagnostic software and OEM service information.
  • Proven track record of complex diagnostics and repairs.
  • ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
