Job Description

Overview

The Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing at Northwestern Illinois Association works with students who have documented hearing loss in both regular and special education settings. This role includes providing direct instruction, collaborating with educational teams, and participating in IEP meetings, all while maintaining high professional standards and supporting each student's unique learning needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct services to deaf and hard-of-hearing students according to their IEPs
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and specialists to support student progress
  • Maintain accurate records of services and interventions
  • Participate in IEP meetings to provide insights on accommodations and assistive technology
  • Engage in professional development to stay current in the field

Required skills

  • Professional Educator's License (PEL) with endorsement for teaching hearing impairments
  • Proficiency with school-based technology and software, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Experience in special education and instructional strategies
