Overview

The Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing at Northwestern Illinois Association (NIA) is responsible for providing specialized education and support to students with hearing impairments across multiple school districts. This role involves collaboration with educational teams, maintaining documentation in compliance with IEP goals, and engaging in ongoing professional development. NIA is committed to meeting the unique needs of students while empowering its staff through growth opportunities and comprehensive benefits.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver specialized instruction and interventions to students who are deaf and hard of hearing in accordance with their IEPs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and specialists to develop and implement supportive strategies.
  • Document services, assessments, and interventions, ensuring compliance with IEP goals and state regulations.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and provide expertise on accommodations and assistive technology.
  • Engage in professional development to stay current with best practices in deaf and hard of hearing education.

Required skills

  • Professional Educator's License (PEL) with endorsement for teaching students with hearing impairments.
  • Proficiency with school-based technology, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite.
