Overview

The Data Center Chief Engineer at Amazon Data Services, Inc. plays a crucial role in maintaining the efficiency and safety of the physical infrastructure that supports global cloud computing. This position is tasked with overseeing the electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, ensuring optimal operations while managing both daily maintenance and emergency responses.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations and maintenance of equipment in the data center
  • Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
  • Troubleshoot and report facility and server-level events
  • Create and deploy new standard practices for engineering operations
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians
  • Ensure adherence to safety and security procedures
  • Utilize internal CMMS to manage workflows
  • Communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Mentor teams in scheduling and ticketing

Required skills

  • 4+ years of data center engineering experience
  • Experience with technical documents and engineering drawings
  • 4+ years of administrative experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Experience leading technical teams through operations and troubleshooting
  • PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent certifications
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments
  • Experience in construction or project management
  • Knowledge of building automation systems and electrical/mechanical troubleshooting
