Overview

A.O. Smith is seeking a Customer Account Specialist to manage the collection of delinquent balances from external customers. This role involves ensuring strong customer relationships while negotiating payments and resolving issues related to past due accounts. The position is located in Ashland City, Tennessee, and is part of a global company known for its innovative water heating and treatment solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Generate aging reports and analyze accounts within an assigned portfolio.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for customers on account-related issues.
  • Negotiate account payments and resolve past due balances via various communication methods.
  • Maintain accurate records of all interactions and document services/products rendered.
  • Prepare documentation for the Legal Department as required.
  • Communicate complex ideas to customers and management.
  • Manipulate data and reports in Excel to validate results.
  • Identify root causes of issues and recommend efficiencies to payment procedures.

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of related work experience or training
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Excellent business writing and speaking abilities
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and basic accounting knowledge
  • Intermediate Excel, Word, and Outlook skills
  • Knowledge of SAP is a plus
