Job Description

Overview

The CT Technologist at Ochsner Health System is responsible for assessing patients and safely performing routine CT procedures according to prescribed radiation safety protocols. This role includes clinical mentoring of junior staff and students, ensuring quality patient care, and keeping up to date with relevant laws and regulations.

Key responsibilities

  • Assess patients and perform routine CT procedures safely
  • Act as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students
  • Verify physician orders and ensure procedure accuracy
  • Utilize radiology information systems effectively
  • Explain procedures to patients to ensure understanding
  • Operate imaging equipment according to protocol
  • Review patient images to ensure they meet diagnostic quality standards
  • Complete quality control procedures timely in accordance with regulatory standards
  • Assist in departmental operations such as inventory and staff schedules
  • Adapt behavior and communication style to specific patient populations
  • Remain knowledgeable about current laws and regulations related to the role

Required skills

  • Completion of an approved Radiologic Technology program
  • CT experience preferred
  • Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Computer skills for data entry and software usage
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of CT procedures and technical language
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently
  • General knowledge of cardiac anatomy and Doppler physics
