Job Description

Overview

The Critical Care/Trauma Physician Assistant position at iRecruitMD involves providing advanced clinical care to critically ill patients in the intensive care unit during day shift hours. The role requires collaboration with critical care physicians and the multidisciplinary ICU team to manage complex medical conditions and support high-acuity patient care.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including histories and physical examinations
  • Manage critically ill patients under the supervision of an intensivist physician
  • Develop, implement, and adjust treatment plans for ICU patients
  • Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests, imaging, and laboratory results
  • Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice
  • Manage ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring, and vasoactive medications
  • Respond to clinical deterioration, emergencies, and rapid response events
  • Coordinate care with nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and consulting services
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding condition, treatment plans, and prognosis
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and ICU protocols

Required skills

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current national certification as a Physician Assistant
  • Active or eligible state licensure
  • BLS and ACLS certification
  • Prior ICU, critical care, emergency medicine, or hospital medicine experience
  • Strong critical thinking and clinical judgment
  • Ability to function effectively in high-acuity, fast-paced environments
  • Proficiency in ICU procedures and critical care management
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care
