Overview

The Texas RioGrande Public Defender is seeking a Criminal Defense Attorney to launch and lead a new public defender's office in Eagle Pass, Texas. This role presents a unique opportunity to establish transformative representation for underserved communities while advocating for client-centered justice.

Key responsibilities

  • Launch and lead the Maverick Regional Public Defender's Office
  • Establish a culture of client-centered advocacy
  • Communicate with local stakeholders to build community relationships
  • Monitor attorney caseloads and ensure manageability
  • Mentor and train newly licensed attorneys
  • Assist in tracking impact data related to representation

Required skills

  • Licensed to practice law in Texas or willingness to take the Texas bar exam
  • At least five years of criminal litigation experience
  • Minimum of five trials as lead counsel
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in Office365 and legal research software
  • Professional fluency in Spanish (highly preferred)
