Job Description

Overview

The Corporate Controller at Midland States Bank is responsible for managing the accounting department's daily operations, ensuring financial accuracy and integrity. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, this role includes oversight of financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance, all while leading a team in a customer-centric culture.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage a team of accounting professionals and conduct performance management activities.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes ensuring adherence to GAAP.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial systems and improve efficiency and automation.
  • Supervise preparation of financial statements and internal reports for leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX requirements and oversee internal controls.
  • Prepare data and schedules for external reporting including 10-Qs and 10-Ks.
  • Partner with CAO on technical accounting research and financial analysis.
  • Develop and manage accounting team's budget.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • CPA certification
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • 7 years of experience leading teams
  • Significant bank accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of GAAP related to banking
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Organizational and time management skills
