Overview

The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources is seeking a Cooperative Extension Area Integrated Pest Management Advisor for Field and Vegetable Crops in the San Joaquin Valley. This role focuses on implementing a multi-county extension education and applied research program addressing insect and mite pest issues affecting field and vegetable crops in Fresno, Kings, Madera, and Tulare counties.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct applied research and extend knowledge related to pest management
  • Provide research-based management recommendations for key insect pests
  • Implement educational activities such as individual farm consultations, presentations, and workshops
  • Disseminate information through various channels, including social media and publications
  • Collaborate with UC ANR academics and external partners on pest management strategies
  • Evaluate and adapt integrated pest management strategies based on regulatory changes

Required skills

  • Master's degree in entomology, pest management, or related field
  • Broad understanding of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Technical competence in experimental techniques
  • Ability to design and implement impactful programs
  • Proficiency in pesticide use, insect identification, and biology
  • Must possess or obtain a Qualified Pesticide Applicator Certificate (QAC) or a Qualified Applicators License (QAL)
  • Valid California Driver's License
