Job Description

Overview

A.O. Smith is seeking a Controller I in Tucson, Arizona, to oversee general accounting, sales accounting, cost accounting, and budgetary controls for two subsidiary locations. This role requires providing financial leadership to ensure fiscal soundness and operational effectiveness while adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Key responsibilities

  • Manage all accounting processes for two locations and ensure timely month-end close
  • Lead forecasting and strategic/annual plan process for Wholesale sales channel and cost centers
  • Review capital assets and operating budgets, checking appropriation requests
  • Drive projects to improve performance and establish accounting processes and controls
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Production, and Warehouse teams on inventory issues
  • Maintain accurate cost data within the ERP system
  • Interpret financial data to make recommendations to management
  • Evaluate financial processes and controls for integration into A.O. Smith's framework
  • Ensure reliable and timely financial information distribution
  • Develop knowledge of accounting policies, financial systems, and controls

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, preferably CPA
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and accounting software, preferably SAP
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and high organizational skills
  • Strong business and financial acumen
