Job Description

Overview

A.O. Smith is seeking a Controller I to oversee general accounting, cost accounting, sales accounting, and budgetary controls for two subsidiary locations. This role will provide financial leadership to ensure operational effectiveness and fiscal soundness as the company continues to innovate in the water heating and treatment industry.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage accounting processes for two locations and ensure timely month-end close in adherence to GAAP
  • Lead forecasting and annual planning for wholesale sales channels and cost centers
  • Review and approve capital assets and operating budgets
  • Drive projects to improve performance and create accounting processes and controls
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Production, and Warehouse teams on inventory issues
  • Maintain accurate cost data within the ERP system
  • Interpret financial data for management recommendations
  • Evaluate financial processes and controls within the AO Smith framework
  • Identify and implement improvements in departmental functions and procedures

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and accounting software, preferably SAP
  • Strong judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and high organizational skills
  • Strong business and financial acumen
