Overview

The Controller at Transitions Mental Health Association will report to the Finance Director and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department. This includes managing general ledger accountant tasks such as payroll, accounts payable, billing, and reconciliation, while ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. The role is vital for the agency's financial health and aligns with their commitment to trauma-informed care.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise and develop accounting staff and their activities
  • Manage general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, billing, and accounts receivable
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, laws, regulations, and funding source guidelines
  • Handle month-end close and financial statement preparation
  • Oversee financial policies and procedures development
  • Monitor and reconcile accounts, including Balance Sheet and cash flow
  • Support annual audit preparation and financial reporting
  • Promote trauma-informed practices in all services and activities

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
  • Five years of accounting experience with at least two years in financial management
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
  • Active CPA preferred
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and automated accounting systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting preferred
