Job Description

Overview

As a Controller at Pelican Brewing Company, you will oversee the accounting operations for the Nestucca Ridge Family of Companies, managing the day-to-day functions of the Accounting Department. Your role will include ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, preparing financial reports, and providing financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and bank reconciliations
  • Support the Director of Accounting in financial forecasts and budgets
  • Document and maintain Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other reporting standards
  • Train accounting staff and identify training needs
  • Monitor inventory practices across all locations
  • Provide financial analysis for capital investments and pricing
  • Ensure organization of audit files and assist with annual audits
  • Monitor budget vs actual variances and escalate issues when necessary
  • Collaborate with leadership to improve margins
  • Train finance and operations teams on financial policies

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration
  • CPA or CMA designation preferred
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in hospitality or restaurant industry
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Proactive problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Interpersonal skills for relationship building with stakeholders
  • History of implementing best practice finance and accounting systems
  • High level of computer skills and technology understanding
