Smithville Communications is seeking a Construction Technician to join their team in Ellettsville, Indiana. The role involves safely using hand and power tools, as well as various machinery to install, maintain, and repair services related to fiber-optic and copper plants, while meeting project deadlines. This position offers a consistent income with opportunities for overtime and steady pay increases.

Key responsibilities

  • Safely operate equipment including trucks, tractors, mini-excavators, and boring machines
  • Manually locate buried utility lines and place cable/fiber within underground conduits
  • Use testing equipment to check utility access holes and clean them from debris
  • Submit time reporting tasks using a laptop on a daily basis
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills in interactions with customers and vendors
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Class A CDL license with a safe driving record
  • Construction experience with heavy equipment knowledge
  • Competence with hand and power tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and surroundings
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and DOT physical
