Overview

Smithville Communications is seeking a Construction Technician to join the team in Ellettsville, Indiana. The role involves safely operating various tools and machinery to install, maintain, and repair customer services related to copper and fiber-optic plants, ensuring tasks are completed on time while providing excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

  • Safely operate equipment such as trucks, tractors, and mini-excavators
  • Climb utility poles and lift equipment weighing up to 45 lbs
  • Use hand tools and machinery to complete assignments safely
  • Manually locate buried utility lines
  • Place and maintain cable/fiber within underground conduit systems
  • Use testing equipment to check for gas and clean utility access holes
  • Submit time reporting tasks daily via laptop computer
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Class A CDL license with a safe driving record
  • Construction experience and knowledge of safety requirements
  • Competence with hand and power tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and DOT physical
