Job Description

Overview

The Construction Cost Engineer at Amazon Data Services, Inc. will support a portfolio of Data Center Construction projects across North and South America. This role requires a balance of innovation, analytical skills, and knowledge of the global construction market to maintain cost controls while delivering high standards for safety and security.

Key responsibilities

  • Utilize tools and templates for bid analysis and cost management
  • Engage and manage third party Quantity Surveyor vendors
  • Work seamlessly with multi-disciplinary teams, both internal and external
  • Communicate cost control goals to all stakeholders
  • Identify Value Engineering opportunities in the design and quantify savings
  • Identify project risks and communicate financial impacts
  • Update repository for historical data
  • Define and track cost performance metrics
  • Analyze construction vendor proposals using AWS benchmark data
  • Create accurate bid leveling documents
  • Provide cost analysis of schedule and design variations
  • Validate final award amount and scope based on contracts
  • Implement and execute cost control and change management
  • Ensure accurate and timely vendor invoices
  • Support construction team with project close-out and final payments
  • Deliver results for multiple projects with competing priorities

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience in designing or constructing data centers or large-scale electrical/mechanical plants
  • Experience with MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems
  • Knowledge of power management and monitoring systems
  • Project management experience in large, complex projects
  • Knowledge of critical data center equipment and engineering documentation
  • Understanding of building codes and regulations
  • Experience in reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings
