Overview

Summary of DutiesServes as the primary point of contact for citizens requiring police, fire or emergency medical services. Dispatches the proper emergency service employees and equipment in response. Performs clerical and records keeping tasks associated with detention center operations, including booking prisoners, processing bonds, and evidence/recovered property maintenance. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTakes emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance, dispatching appropriate unit, and maintaining contact with responding units to gather and supply information;Disseminates pertinent information associated with criminal and traffic records to authorized agencies and personnel;Receives and processes a variety of time sensitive data and information in assigned area of responsibility;Enters a variety of information into applicable database(s), including warrants, lost or stolen property, missing persons, Amber Alerts, etc.;Monitors the Emergency Broadcast System and activates tornado sirens and high-speed notification systems in the event of an emergency;Performs clerical and records keeping duties associated with detention center operations, including booking prisoners, processing bonds, arranging transfers, and releasing prisoners and property;Provides professional service, including delivery of accurate, prompt, and courteous assistance on complex policies, guidelines, and standard practices to citizens, both verbally and in writing;Sorts, files, and maintains materials (paper, computer or imaging), retrieves file materials, and keeps a record of file movement.May serve as Records Clerk;May perform other support duties as assigned;Assists with special projects and performs other similar duties as assigned. Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNone Budgetary ResponsibilitiesNone Minimum QualificationsMust possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and CompetenciesProficiency in grammar, spelling, and punctuation;Knowledge related to the department or function, and general City operation and organization;Knowledge of the City geography;Ability to use Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System and Automated Law Enforcement Response Team System;Ability to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate;Skill in operation of modern office equipment such as personal computer, facsimile, copiers, scanners and telephones;Skill in use of various personal computer software, including word processing;Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with citizens, co-workers, and representatives of other agencies;Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to manipulate calls when necessary to gain essential information;Ability to provide professional service and interact effectively with individuals who may be confused, upset, or irate;Ability to comprehend, process and apply both verbal and written skills appropriate to the job;Skilled in researching and resolving complex problems in order to ensure compliance;Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics and judgment;Ability to think analytically and apply sound judgment, solve problems, make effective decisions, and act with integrity;Ability to explain policies, processes, regulations and applicable laws within area of expertise in layman's terms;Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries;Ability to use City resources effectively and efficiently.
