Overview

Society Insurance is seeking a seasoned Commercial Underwriting Manager to lead and develop an underwriting team while driving growth across a multi-state territory. This role involves crafting tailored coverage strategies and enhancing relationships with independent agencies, all while working in a flexible remote environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage underwriting performance indicators and develop tactical plans to support business objectives
  • Supervise and develop a team of underwriters through coaching and mentoring
  • Accept or decline underwriter referrals based on company standards and risk evaluation
  • Enhance relationships with independent agencies and Regional Sales Managers
  • Ensure high-quality service by resolving complex quality and service issues
  • Participate in project teams and contribute new ideas in meetings

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in a commercial, multi-line underwriting role
  • Strong knowledge of insurance coverages, laws, and concepts
  • Prior management experience in the P&C industry
  • Recognized higher-level industry designations (e.g., CPCU, AIC, CIC, ARM, AU)
  • Familiarity with commercial-lines rating and pricing techniques
  • High competency with information technology, including AI and workflow management
