Job Description

Overview

The Commercial HVAC Technician at MAC is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing advanced Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems in commercial buildings. This role demands strong technical expertise and the ability to interpret complex designs while ensuring reliable climate control solutions for large facilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Install VRF/VRV systems including outdoor units, indoor fan coils, branch selector boxes, refrigerant piping, and controls
  • Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting on multi-zone VRF systems
  • Conduct routine maintenance including leak checks, coil cleaning, electrical inspections, and system performance testing
  • Read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams for complex HVAC layouts
  • Commission new systems by configuring controls and verifying refrigerant charge
  • Repair or replace HVAC components such as compressors and control boards
  • Document all work performed including service reports and maintenance logs
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and building owners
  • Follow safety protocols related to refrigerants and electrical systems

Required skills

  • Strong knowledge of VRF/VRV technology and refrigerant flow principles
  • Proficiency with refrigeration tools and diagnostic software
  • Ability to diagnose electrical and communication issues in HVAC systems
  • Experience with BACnet, Modbus, or proprietary control platforms
  • EPA Section 608 Certification
  • HVAC technical school training or equivalent field experience
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in commercial construction environments
