Overview

The Collections Specialist at Capital Waste Services is responsible for managing customer accounts to ensure timely collection of receivables. This role collaborates with various teams to address billing issues and maintain positive customer relationships, supporting the company's cash flow objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform outbound collection activities via phone, email, and written correspondence.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging reports and follow up on past-due balances.
  • Resolve billing discrepancies related to waste services.
  • Coordinate with operations and customer service to verify service completion and resolve disputes.
  • Document all collection efforts and customer communications in the billing or ERP system.
  • Process and track payment commitments and ensure resolution.
  • Escalate high-risk or non-responsive accounts to the Accounts Receivable Manager.
  • Maintain accurate customer account records and aging reports.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and confidentiality requirements.
  • Handle difficult customer interactions professionally.

Required skills

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 2-4 years of experience in collections, accounts receivable, or billing.
  • Experience in waste services, utilities, logistics, or recurring service industries preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with billing systems, accounting software, or ERP platforms.
  • High attention to detail and strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Strong organizational skills and customer-focused mindset.
