Job Description

Overview

The CNC Machinist A Lead will provide hands-on leadership and technical support to machinists and machine operators within the manufacturing environment. This role is essential in coordinating daily shop floor activities, implementing automation and continuous improvement initiatives, and fostering a productive and accountable team culture while achieving safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Operate machine tools to manufacture parts according to specifications, blueprints, and work instructions
  • Lead and assign daily work activities for machinists and machine operators
  • Support production scheduling, workload coordination, and short-term planning
  • Provide leadership and technical support for automation initiatives
  • Collaborate with programming to set up and optimize part numbers
  • Work with tooling and management to improve processes and throughput
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines
  • Load parts for machining and conduct in-process quality checks
  • Coordinate across shifts for smooth operations
  • Select and adjust tooling according to planning documents
  • Inspect finished parts for quality compliance

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 5 to 8 years of machine shop experience or equivalent education
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Experience with CNC and manual machines, including 5-axis
  • Strong leadership and team motivation skills
  • Effective communication abilities with cross-functional teams
