Overview

The Clinical Lab Technologist at Mayo Clinic is responsible for performing clinical testing, quality control, and maintenance of laboratory equipment. The role emphasizes safe specimen handling and effective communication with healthcare providers, ensuring accurate test results and quality patient care.

Key responsibilities

  • Collect, receive, and process specimens in a safe and professional manner
  • Perform clinical testing using automated and manual technology
  • Conduct quality control and quality assurance procedures
  • Perform maintenance on laboratory equipment
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with machines
  • Communicate critical values effectively to healthcare providers
  • Maintain laboratory documentation and files
  • Conduct validation, verification, and correlation of equipment
  • Perform duties in various laboratory sections including Blood Banking and Microbiology

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field
  • Microscopic analysis skills
  • Proficiency in laboratory procedures and instruments
  • Knowledge of Blood Bank theory and applied chemistry
  • Skills in Hematology, Microbiology, and Urinalysis
  • Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen collection techniques
