Job Description

Overview

As a Clinical Lab Technologist at Mayo Clinic in Mankato, Minnesota, you will be responsible for collecting, processing, and testing various specimens in a clinical laboratory setting. You will utilize automated and manual technologies to ensure accurate results while performing quality control and maintenance on laboratory equipment.

Key responsibilities

  • Collect, receive, and process specimens accurately and safely.
  • Perform clinical testing using various laboratory technologies.
  • Conduct quality control and quality assurance procedures.
  • Maintain and perform daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with laboratory equipment.
  • Participate in external quality controls and laboratory competencies.
  • Maintain laboratory documentation and files.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare providers regarding test results and patient care.
  • Work in different sections of the laboratory including Blood Banking, Clinical Chemistry, and Microbiology.
  • Support operational functions to facilitate workflow.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field.
  • Proficiency in medical laboratory procedures and instruments.
  • Knowledge of Blood Bank theory and applied chemistry.
  • Skills in microbiology and PCR techniques.
  • Understanding of applied hematology and coagulation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen collection.
  • Microscopic analysis skills.
