Job Description

Overview

The Clinical Lab Technologist at Mayo Clinic will be responsible for collecting, processing, and testing a variety of specimens, ensuring accurate reporting and quality assurance in laboratory results. This role involves using automated and manual technologies and maintaining laboratory equipment while effectively communicating with healthcare providers and colleagues.

Key responsibilities

  • Collect, receive, and process specimens in a safe and professional manner
  • Perform clinical testing using various automated and manual technologies
  • Execute quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with machines
  • Participate in external quality controls and maintain laboratory documentation
  • Demonstrate competency in phlebotomy across all age ranges
  • Perform operational support functions to facilitate laboratory workflow
  • Be available to work weekends, overnight, and holiday shifts

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field
  • Proficiency in medical laboratory procedures and instruments
  • Knowledge of Blood Bank theory and applied chemistry
  • Skills in Microbiology, PCR, Hematology, and Coagulation
  • Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen collection techniques
  • Applied Urinalysis knowledge in the context of a medical laboratory
