Job Description

Overview

The University of Cincinnati is hiring Clinical Lab Scientists for the Hoxworth Blood Center's Quality Control Laboratory. This full-time role requires motivated individuals who possess strong communication and critical thinking skills, particularly in blood banking and quality control. Candidates will perform both routine and complex testing on blood components while maintaining compliance with quality standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex quality control testing on blood and blood components
  • Interpret and record test results
  • Communicate and report test results to internal and external customers
  • Process incoming patient blood samples
  • Compose written case reports for hospital patient referrals when appropriate
  • Prepare laboratory reagents and conduct reagent evaluation studies
  • Maintain equipment and ensure a clean work area
  • Quarantine and discard blood products with positive test results

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related biological science
  • Experience in blood banking
  • Proficient in computerized data entry and retrieval
  • MLT or MLS Registry Eligibility
  • ASCP certification (within one year of hire for Clinical Lab Scientist 1 or upon hire for Clinical Lab Scientist 2)
  • Two years of relevant work experience
