Job Description

Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Clinical Dietitian to join the Duke Weight Loss Surgery Center in Raleigh, NC. This role involves providing dietary support to patients undergoing weight loss surgery, including conducting nutritional assessments, leading education sessions, and collaborating with a healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes. The position requires both in-person and telehealth interactions with patients.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate pre-operative and post-operative bariatric nutrition group classes
  • Develop and update patient education materials
  • Conduct nutrition assessments and follow-up visits for bariatric surgery patients
  • Ensure template utilization and management of patient interactions
  • Handle chart reviews and patient surveys
  • Respond to messages from staff and patients
  • Schedule and reschedule patient appointments as needed
  • Work with providers on dietary and nutritional orders
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to support patient outcomes
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust nutrition interventions
  • Maintain registered dietitian status and licensure
  • Precept dietetic interns and train new clinical staff

Required skills

  • Baccalaureate degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, or comparable major
  • Completion of a coordinated program or dietetic internship of at least 900 hours
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) status
  • Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) in North Carolina or eligibility to obtain
  • Experience in bariatric nutrition and weight management preferred
  • Familiarity with medical weight loss interventions preferred
  • Clinical experience in an acute care environment preferred
