Overview

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a Workers Compensation Claims Specialist to join their Claims Team in Long Beach, California. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and processing moderately to complex claims, making decisions on liability, negotiating settlements, and managing a caseload of commercial property/casualty claims. This position may also involve mentoring new team members and providing technical direction.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct investigations of claims, including interviewing parties and collecting evidence.
  • Determine the need for independent experts, adjusters, and medical examiners.
  • Assess policy coverage and notify the insured of any issues.
  • Determine and adjust reserve requirements during the claim process.
  • Conduct negotiations to settle claims within assigned authority limits.
  • Coordinate litigation activities for timely resolutions and represent the company at trials.
  • Mentor and train new team members.
  • Participate in Quality Reviews and assist in various claims-related committees.

Required skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Workers' Compensation claims handling.
  • Direct claims handling experience from investigation through resolution.
  • BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of claims investigation techniques and medical terminology.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain applicable licenses and certifications.
