Job Description

Overview

As a Claims Specialist at Liberty Mutual Insurance, you will be responsible for the investigation, evaluation, and disposition of complex Workers Compensation cases that involve high exposure and severity. This role requires applying established medical management strategies and utilizing data to track claims trends while collaborating with management and external counsel.

Key responsibilities

  • Investigate claims to determine coverage, establish compensability, and verify exposure
  • Resolve claims within authority, making recommendations on case value and resolution strategy
  • Participate in pricing, reserving, and strategy discussions with management
  • Manage litigated files according to established litigation management protocols
  • Handle suspicious claims and those with potential subrogation exposure
  • Establish and maintain accurate reserves on all assigned files
  • Make timely reserve recommendations to management on cases exceeding authority
  • Prepare for and attend mediation sessions and negotiate on behalf of the company
  • Understand new exposures and coverages, conducting claims related data analysis
  • Confers directly with policyholders on coverage and resolution strategies
  • Coordinate and participate in training sessions for less experienced staff

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent business experience
  • 5-7 years of related claims experience, including 1-2 years in complex claims
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • California or Washington Self-Insured Certification
