Overview

The City Attorney of San Luis plays a crucial role in providing executive leadership and oversight for the City Attorney's Office and City Prosecutor's Office. Serving as the Chief Legal Advisor, this individual will deliver legal counsel to the City Council, City Manager, and various city departments while handling complex legal issues related to municipal law, land use, and contract negotiations.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel to the City Council, City Manager, and city departments.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, intergovernmental agreements, and legal documents.
  • Attend city council meetings and provide legal advice on agenda matters.
  • Conduct complex legal research and prepare legal opinions.
  • Oversee compliance with city policies and land use regulations.
  • Manage the budget for the City Attorney's Office and the City Prosecutor's Office.
  • Represent the City in legal proceedings and oversee outside counsel.
  • Evaluate risk related to City operations and pursue enforcement actions.
  • Develop and implement goals and policies for the City Attorney's Office.

Required skills

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Five years of progressive legal experience with supervisory responsibilities
  • Licensed to practice law in Arizona
  • Strong knowledge of municipal law principles
  • Legal research and analysis skills
  • Contract negotiation and development skills
  • Public speaking and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently
