Overview

The City of San Luis is seeking a City Attorney to provide executive leadership and legal counsel to various City entities, including the City Council and City Manager. This role involves overseeing the City Attorney's Office and the City Prosecutor's Office, focusing on municipal law, contract negotiations, and compliance with legal standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as the Chief Legal Advisor to the City Council and City Manager.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal documents.
  • Attend city council meetings and render legal advice on agenda matters.
  • Conduct complex legal research and prepare opinions for the City Council and departments.
  • Oversee legal representation in litigation involving the City.
  • Manage the budget for the City Attorney's Office and Prosecutor's Office.
  • Develop and implement City Attorney's Office goals and policies.
  • Evaluate risks related to City operations and ensure compliance with city codes.

Required skills

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • Five years of progressive legal experience with supervisory responsibility
  • Knowledge of municipal law principles and practices
  • Contract negotiation and management skills
  • Legal research capabilities
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex legal issues
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
