Overview

The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of St Paul and Minneapolis is a crucial leadership role responsible for driving income growth through strategic donor partnerships. The CAO is part of the executive team, overseeing fundraising efforts to ensure the organization's financial capacity to deliver its mission, which serves over 25,000 people in need each year.

Key responsibilities

  • Establish annual and long-term goals for fundraising teams
  • Provide strategic counsel and support to the CEO
  • Analyze giving trends and modify fundraising strategies accordingly
  • Design and implement outreach initiatives in collaboration with external affairs staff
  • Lead special fundraising campaigns in support of the Board and CEO
  • Develop and manage budgets for fundraising teams
  • Mentor and support professional development of fundraising staff
  • Maintain knowledge of all Catholic Charities programs
  • Engage staff and volunteers in fundraising efforts when appropriate
  • Cultivate relationships with high-level donors and create proposals
  • Coordinate events for donor engagement and support

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or equivalent experience
  • Ten years of comprehensive fundraising experience
  • Experience with nonprofit boards and high-level volunteers
  • Extensive experience managing large budgets
  • Strategic planning and program analysis skills
  • Strong data analysis skills
  • Experience with donor databases
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
