Overview

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House is seeking a mission-driven Chef Manager to oversee its institutional kitchen operations and enhance its farm-to-institution food service model. This role involves collaborating with various teams to improve food services and ensure the provision of healthy, nutritious meals to the community while contributing to food equity and sustainability efforts.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee management and operations of the institutional kitchen, including menu creation and management
  • Lead and coordinate the Food Services Team for effective daily operations
  • Develop and introduce farm-to-institution recipes that accommodate cultural preferences
  • Support community meal outreach initiatives and logistics
  • Utilize technology for tracking food costs, inventory, and compliance
  • Negotiate with vendors and manage sourcing opportunities
  • Facilitate training and ensure compliance with food handling procedures
  • Improve kitchen standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Assist with daily food operations and in-house special events

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of culinary or food production experience
  • Experience in high-volume meal production and community food programs
  • Strong management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills, including Excel and culinary software
  • Food Protection Certificate from NYC Department of Health or ability to obtain
  • Experience with DFTA and CACFP preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Commitment to food equity and sustainable food systems
