The Chaplain Resident at Mercy Hospital is part of a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program aimed at individuals pursuing certification as professional chaplains or seeking advanced training in spiritual care. This role involves developing spiritual care skills through ministry practice and reflection, catering to patients, families, hospital staff, and the larger community.

Key responsibilities

  • Enroll in and complete the Clinical Pastoral Education Residency Program
  • Provide spiritual care in various settings
  • Engage in reflective practice with chaplain-mentors and peers
  • Perform duties in alignment with Mercy's mission and values
  • Demonstrate compassion and ethical decision-making
  • Utilize computer skills for documentation and communication

Required skills

  • Graduate theological degree or equivalent training
  • Experience in a pastoral or ministry setting
  • Active listening and interpersonal skills
  • Conflict resolution and cultural competence
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and general computer use
  • Ability to enter data and use search engines
