Job Description

Overview

As a Full-Time Chaplain at Mercy, you will respond to the healing mission by providing spiritual, social, and emotional support to patients, families, and personnel during times of illness or injury. This role involves working collaboratively within a pastoral team and the interdisciplinary clinical team to ensure high patient satisfaction while adhering to Mercy's mission and values.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual care and counseling to patients and families
  • Assist in meeting patients' spiritual, social, and emotional needs
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a pastoral team
  • Advocate for patients, family members, or coworkers as needed
  • Utilize computer systems and communication tools effectively
  • Minister in crisis and trauma situations
  • Maintain a compassionate and respectful approach towards all individuals

Required skills

  • Masters-level education in Theology, Ministry, Counseling, Divinity or related field
  • Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
  • One year of health care chaplaincy experience
  • Certification as a Board-Certified Chaplain
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Multicultural sensitivity and compassion
  • Ability to work in emotional and stressful situations
  • Team collaboration skills
  • Experience in crisis intervention
