Job Description

Overview

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position at a respected nonprofit organization in Chicago focuses on leading financial operations and strategic planning while ensuring effective day-to-day financial management. The CFO will work closely with the executive leadership team and the Board to guide the organization through its next growth phase and strengthen its financial infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead all financial operations including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and cash management
  • Oversee annual audit process, internal controls, compliance, and financial governance
  • Partner with executive leadership and Board members on financial strategy and planning
  • Mentor and develop a small accounting team while remaining hands-on operationally
  • Drive process improvements and strengthen financial infrastructure across the organization

Required skills

  • Nonprofit accounting or finance leadership experience
  • Prior CFO experience preferred; open to strong Controller ready for a step up
  • Heavy audit and compliance background required
  • Leadership and team management skills
  • Experience in budgeting and financial reporting
  • Strategic planning and process improvement expertise
