Job Description

Overview

St. Catherine's Center for Children is seeking a Certified Teacher in Special Education for grades K-6 in Albany, New York. This full-time position involves planning and implementing educational programs for students with significant emotional and behavioral challenges. The ideal candidate will supervise classroom staff and foster a nurturing, therapeutic learning environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and implement IEP and Treatment Plans for each student
  • Construct daily and weekly lesson plans
  • Consult with special service teachers on IEP implementation
  • Oversee classroom staff including Teacher Assistants
  • Maintain a therapeutic classroom environment
  • Assist students in developing emotional and social skills
  • Evaluate performance of the Teacher Assistant
  • Enforce agency and school policies
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction
  • Participate in professional development and training

Required skills

  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field
  • NYS Certification in Special Education, Literacy or Students with Disabilities
  • Experience with students facing emotional and behavioral challenges
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a high-paced environment
  • Experience with curriculum mapping and behavior management techniques
