Overview

As a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at Duke Health's Patient Engagement Center, you will provide essential clinical support and patient care in a high-volume call center, assisting with various medical needs. The role involves collecting medical histories, monitoring vital signs, scheduling appointments, and communicating effectively with patients to ensure they receive compassionate care.

Key responsibilities

  • Collect medical histories and monitor vital signs
  • Assist medical staff in patient care tasks
  • Prepare patients for exams and procedures
  • Perform EKGs and basic lab tests
  • Manage prescription refills and calls
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate referrals
  • Handle administrative tasks like billing and updating medical records
  • Ensure clear communication and support for patients

Required skills

  • Certified Medical Assistant certification
  • BLS certification
  • Experience in clinical settings (1+ years for Level II, 3+ years for Level III)
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Familiarity with infection control procedures
  • Typing skills and ability to document clearly
