Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at Duke Health's Hematology Oncology Clinic in Cary, North Carolina, is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for providing direct patient care and supporting administrative tasks. This full-time role requires a commitment to compassionate patient care and collaboration within the healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist medical and nursing staff in taking medical histories and recording vital signs
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients and prepare them for examinations
  • Assist the physician during examinations and procedures
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic lab tests
  • Promote patient/family understanding of educational content related to care
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician
  • Handle telephone prescriptions and authorize drug refills
  • Answer telephones, greet patients, and manage patient medical records
  • Schedule appointments and arrange for hospital admissions
  • Perform billing and bookkeeping duties as directed
