Job Description

Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join the Hematology Oncology Clinic at the Duke Raleigh Campus in Raleigh, North Carolina. The CMA will perform administrative and clinical duties that support patient care and ensure the smooth operation of the clinic, all while contributing to the mission of advancing health together.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine administrative duties such as answering telephones and scheduling appointments
  • Update and file patient medical records and handle insurance forms
  • Assist medical and nursing staff in taking medical histories and recording vital signs
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, and assist during those procedures
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic laboratory tests
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician
  • Conduct patient education and document involvement in the care plan
  • Maintain sterile conditions and handle contaminated supplies appropriately

Required skills

  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required
  • BLS certification required
  • Clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
  • Ability to document and communicate pertinent patient information
  • Basic understanding of infection control procedures and health safety precautions
