Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join the Asthma, Allergy, and Airway Center in Durham, NC. This role is integral to providing both direct and indirect care to patients while working closely with medical and nursing staff. The position offers a commitment to compassionate care and is part of a larger mission to advance health across North Carolina.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist medical and nursing staff with various tasks
  • Take medical histories and record vital signs
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician
  • Perform phlebotomy and manage lab supply orders
  • Authorize drug refills as directed
  • Telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy
  • Perform other clinical functions as delegated by the physician
  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients
  • Prepare patients for examination procedures
  • Perform allergy procedures

Required skills

  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required
  • BLS certification required
  • Graduation from an accredited medical assistant program
  • 1 year of clinical experience as a Certified Medical Assistant preferred
  • Knowledge of healthcare communication and clinical assistance
  • Experience with medication administration, vital signs monitoring, and laboratory management
