Overview

Amherst College is seeking a part-time Casual Baker to support daily bakery production on campus. This position plays a key role in enhancing the dining experience for students and contributes to various campus events. The Casual Baker will work collaboratively with team members while maintaining high standards of quality, consistency, and organization in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and bake quality products for student dining and catering services.
  • Follow standardized recipes and established production methods.
  • Scale, mix, shape, bake, finish, and platter assigned baked goods.
  • Assist with daily production of cookies, breads, pastries, and other bakery items.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and sanitary bakery.
  • Communicate product shortages and production issues to supervisors.
  • Support special events and catering production as assigned.

Required skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience, or 5+ years in bakery production
  • Foundational knowledge of basic baking techniques
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes accurately
  • Basic knife skills and safe equipment handling
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods
  • Commitment to working in an inclusive community

What the company offers

  • $18 to $20 per hour depending on experience
