Overview

The Camp Wakonda Lead Counselor at Keene Family YMCA is responsible for providing direct supervision and leadership in a seasonal day camp setting. This role focuses on creating a safe and nurturing environment for children while fostering positive engagement according to YMCA's core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide instruction to camp participants following camp guidelines
  • Lead preplanned activities and engage children enthusiastically
  • Build meaningful relationships with members, participants, and families
  • Complete incident and accident reports and communicate issues to the Camp Director
  • Maintain attendance records of campers
  • Participate actively in all camp activities and staff meetings
  • Uphold all YMCA policies and emergency procedures
  • Communicate effectively with parents and coworkers

Required skills

  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Experience in youth development and child supervision
  • Background in outdoor living, education, or recreational activities
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications
  • Ability to work with diverse groups
  • Self-motivation and independence
  • Behavior management experience in childcare settings
  • 2-5 years experience working with youth
