Overview

The Camp Sous Chef at The Boys' Club of New York supports the Food Service Director in managing kitchen operations at a sleep-away camp. This seasonal role involves food preparation, meal service, and ensuring food safety standards while fostering a positive camp environment for campers aged 10 to 17.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing three meals per day plus snacks for 120+ campers and staff
  • Support timely meal service, ensuring dietary needs are met
  • Maintain quality and consistency in food preparation and presentation
  • Help with daily kitchen setup, breakdown, and cleaning
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment
  • Manage organized food storage areas
  • Follow health codes and food service regulations
  • Monitor food temperatures and safe food handling practices
  • Assist with receiving and organizing food deliveries
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff and camp leadership
  • Lead kitchen operations in the absence of the Food Service Director

Required skills

  • At least 2 years of experience in a commercial kitchen or institutional food service
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and kitchen safety
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Food safety certification (ServSafe or equivalent) preferred
